  3. Thanks, I tend to eat any mackerel I catch. I do not have a boat so I can generally only catch Mackerel, Lyr and Sei. I do not like Lyr or Sei particularly but I will happily eat mackerel (even the fatty stinky ones). Is mackerel season over in Stavanger? The last week of September I caught a lot i the early morning using sabiki system with a spinner at the end, catching them 4 or 5 at a time. But today it was much colder and I caught nothing. Does the season usually end in October or can you continue catching them later? Other fish I have caught from the shoreline in Norway are wrasse (not sure of the Norwegian name) and one time I caught a greater weaver, which have poisonous barbs, but actually it was very tasty.
  4. helpful stuff, I appreciate the detailed answer and the pic.
  5. I have some of these with 2 hooks one at the front and one at the back? The ones I see for sale in Norway are usually just one hook at the back. What is the purpose of 2 hooks? I'm worried that if the mackerel or sei try to eat the whole lure it will get hooked twice and it will be very difficult to remove the lower hook.
  6. I will be coming back later this month to Tananger. Where do you guys order your gear from? Is it OK to ask this here? I can't bring any large items with me, so I would like to order some stuff. Where do you guys buy rods/reels/line etc. My friend took me to a store at the mall last time but I couldn't find those mackerel lures, the daisy chain type last time I was here, I only saw the spinners I think the type with multiple hooks works a lot better for mackerel.
  7. caught at Hålandsvatnet, it's pretty big, longer than my chopping board (30cm). Not really sure what I was doing, water looked quite shallow, and I was using very light spinner with mono rated for 40g, (this is the rod that I have been using for mackerel fishing). I could only throw about 6 or 7 meters with this and because of the depth, I pulled in quickly. So it was a lot of throwing. is this the proper action for trout fishing with spinners? ( Obviously thinner line would be better.)
  8. yes I think I was around here. I will try again in a couple of weeks maybe. Coastal fishing seems a lot less trouble than the lake or salmon fishing. I'm nervous about breaking any rules or paying a lot then catching nothing.
  9. thanks, i am actually in Tananger area, but will try to check those coordinates
  10. Thanks for responses. Anyone know where is a good place for salmon? And what gear to use?
  11. I will be in Stavanger for may and june the weather is starting to get better. I went fishing with a friend and he said mackerel and Sai(?) is common to catch from the shore, but we caught nothing, people are saying its too early. Is there any legal place to fish in lakes near Stavanger/Sandnes area? I do not have a boat or kaya. I have a spinning rod, general purpose and any lures that can be bought at local stores. Thanks
