I just bought a cheap over the shoulder one... exactly how big a mistake was it?

waste of money Get a good one - they're not that expencive. I use the NuMark Stand Up 2000, and would recommend it.

I need to have words with carbon pusher peterson.

Cheap butt pad is fine for me but the vest is awkward when its all set up and high sticks at a comfortable posture.

Damnit, thought I had enough leftover for an aspire spinning rod as well.

I agree with Thor buy a "standup" harnes were you get the pressure around the waist and the butt.

The "old" type that you have over your shoulders will work just fine pumping fish up to 20kg in shallower water. But if you are so lucky that you hook a 200lb halibut or a greenlandsleepershark it will kill you.

Had a guest in 2006 that hooked a 800lb greenlandsleepershark on a depth of 580m he used about 2hours with the oldtype harness to get it to the surface and he wont try that again he was not himself for acouple of hours.

I use and prefer the Black Magic harness.

Hahaha... winding in a big lead and bait 500+ metres could kill me. the harness Idea was more about having less to hold in between fish rather than thinking I was gonna get lucky but i think I should have given it more thought beforehand as I had been thinking about halibut. Oh well... need to go shopping again.
