atomichaggis Skrevet February 12, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 I fancy a charter trip in northern Norway for My birthday in may, does anyone know a good fishing tour operator that can fix things like flights, hotels and charter trips? I've thought about it for the longest time so its about time I actually did it... it would make my 19th birthday very special. atomichaggis Skrevet February 12, 2008 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 cheers! Their season doesn't start til after my birthday... maybe I'll just have to take it as a summer holiday, would be smart considering the prices. Flights are the biggest pain... especially from haugesund. I've been looking at sørøya trips for the last few hours and they all seem to specialise in cabins with boat hire up there... fishing looks good but it's a big big sea on your own in a little boat... any thoughts? can anyone advise on travel links? what are the closest airports to the top fishing spots? sørøya, røst and any gems I haven't heard of. Gotland Skrevet February 12, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 (endret) There is a airport on Røst otherwise you have one in Bodø and one in Svolvær. For Sørøya I think Tromsø is the closest but their might be a smaller one near the island. And if you are thinking about Røst you could allways take the train to Bodø and then the ferry or plane to Røst. And I would make the trip between may and august its the safest time for good weather. atomichaggis Skrevet February 12, 2008 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 Sørøya may be a stretch too far... right on top of the world. Is the fishing off the coast at Bodø as good as it is around røst or do you need to go right off the shelf? thanks for the tips... one problem tho... we don't have trains in this village Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
Gotland Skrevet February 12, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 You have a place called Saltstraumen just outside Bodø its a famous "bigfish" place. Its good fishing both from shore and offshore its a gigantic tide current 20knots+. Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet February 12, 2008 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 I've seen videos of that place... frightening! I've just mailed a camp up north of Tromsø were all the brits like to go as flights from stavanger are only 3,500 nok for 2 ppl return I dunno what the camp's prices and availability is like tho... finger's crossed tho. If it's a no go there then I'll look into saltstraumen... røst is a bit of a pain for transfers. Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
Gotland Skrevet February 12, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 Røst is only 20 minutes with plane from Bodø but its expensive 20 minutes. Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet February 12, 2008 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet February 12, 2008 Røst is only 20 minutes with plane from Bodø but its expensive 20 minutes. Yes, it added considerably to the travel price and as there are only 2 flights a day and one in the weekends It needed careful consideration when booking joining flights. If Tromsø works out then it would mean simpler travel and huge savings and the fishing seems just as impressive... regularly featured in UK magazines. Most important tho is that I could go on my birthday. Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet February 13, 2008 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet February 13, 2008 Transfer to the camp was steep... 4K! Anyone know of any cabins and/or boat hire easily accessible from Tromsø? Is it worth just flying up there and looking? ThorEH Skrevet February 13, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 13, 2008 How about some fishing on a island called Frøya, in Trøndelag Haggis ? I think there's a swedish skipper with a nice boat who takes people out fishing there... Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
limanda Skrevet February 13, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 13, 2008 Lauklines any good? Lying just 30km from Tromsø airport it is easy to get there at least. They have hire boats in the 17-18feet range whith 25hp engines, depth sounders and safety gear. They used to have a fishing guide there, but im not sure if thats is only in summer. Fishing there in may you might expect to catch some decent cod, at least up to 10-15kg, catfish, tusk, ocean perch(redfish, uer), haddock, maybe hallibut ( they had many last year) and flatfish like plaice and dab.A couple of years ago they had lots of good coalfish( to 10kg) in may, but that do not occur every year. Lying inside Kattfjorden it offers sheltered fishing if the wheater outside is to rough, but for the bigger fish the open sea grounds are the best bet. I would have prefered outer side of Kvaløya but transfers are a pain or camps ain't answering etc. The catches inside the fjord at lauklines look pretty acceptable sizes tho... is the outer side of kvaløya out of range of the hire boats? We'll halibut and catfish probably ins't their speciality - but perhaps Gotland can send you a PM on what he can offer I've bought a metric ton of big arse jigging shads... halibut is the main goal. seems they catch them everywhere around Tromsø and the flight is only 3.5K return for 2 ppl... kinda hard to ignore. Where is Gotland at? what ya got? Hehehe... I've just realised gotland is the swede from frøya Stekus.... where you at??? cannonbang Skrevet February 14, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 14, 2008 Hei If Sørøya still is of interest, you can fly directly to Hasvik with Widerøe. From there it is apx 15 km to Breivikbotn and 35km to Sørvær. If you got the time, it is also possible to fly to Tromsø, take Hurtigruta to Øksnes and a car ferry to Hasvik. Hurtigruta usually have redused fare mon-fri in the low season, i think it is 60% off. The trip takes about 8 hours from Tromsø. To Røst you can take the local boat from Bodø. I think it is possible to save some money that way, you avoid Widerøe, wich is the expensive part of flying trips in north Norway Mvh Cannonbang Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider

I think we are gonna try Lauklines, just minor details to iron out but it looks like its a go. The rates and facilities are agreeable and the flights are comparetively cheap. Part of the problems I've had finding a place is because there are only 2 of us going and only for a few nights. I checked out widerøe... flights cost more than entire trip on the days I've got booked or take the best part of a day. I'll be sure to explore the north more thoroughly in the future... could use an idiot's guide to north Norway in the meantime. cannonbang Skrevet February 14, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 14, 2008 Hei Since it seems to be Tromsø, maybe this one is interesting to you. PerH Skrevet February 16, 2008 Rapporter Share Skrevet February 16, 2008 Hehe... Rent a wreck. Neither of us driving ... no matter tho, we got a transfer and booked You can take the bus from the airport right out to Lauklines, I think it's line 10. Then you may meet the owner (Andreas), which is also working part-time as a bus driver. If he is not driving the bus, or you miss the bus - I think he or some other from their staff may pick you up at the airport and drive you there if you just dare to ask them. They are very service minded..! Facilities are very comfortable and you practically sit right on top of the sea in the living room. I've stayed there many times while hunting in September. Just call or mail them first, cause the boats are not available in winter time, but maybe Andreas can put one on the water for you. Just remember that the sea up there is not for beginners, as weather might change in split seconds if a nasty polar front hits you... "Stekus" at FS is one of the employees there, he does some guiding too and have some knowledge about good places to try for halibut. If he isn't around, Andreas surely knows where to go. And there is lots of other fish around there, in March/April there are good fishing for larger cod, and if you bring tougher equipment and fish deeper there are good spots for lange and brosme some 10-15 minutes away in the boat. There is also a charming little tackle shop at Lauklines with selected quality items, so you can't really miss while staying there... Have a nice birthday there!!!
