Fiskestengene Vangen & Carlsen Stangmakere

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am not from Norway, and I speak only English,  and I hope you can help me. I am here because my dad left to me these fishing rods, and I am not sure what kinds of rods they are. All I know is that he got them from a guy who was an ambassador of some embassy, they might be vintage and custom made. The brand is Vangen & Carlsen Stangmakere. Could you maybe tell me where to ask more about them? I would like to know if I could sell them and how much would they cost. Thank you so much!

I dont know the whole story about these Fishing rods myself, but I have some information. This Company started to produce fishing rods in 1944. I have not been able to find out anything about "Carlsen", but "Vangen" is Sigurd Vangen. In the years after WW2, they built a reputation for producing high quality fly rods in split cane. From the late 1960s, or some time around that period, Sigurd Vangen built rods under his own name only. During the 1970s Vangen had the reputation of producing arguably the best fly rods in Norway. Sigurd Vangens son Kjell took over the Company, and he continued to produce high quality rods for some years. Kjell Vangen passed away in 2002.

hi

Worth to mention is also that Vangen & Carlsen was the first to build fly rods in norway. Rods before this was imported, mainly from England.

The company  died with kjell vangen, wich is a little pity. I have tre rods of this brand "Vangen of Norway"and they are all beautiful rods
