ohh...helsikke for et vær...snør småjævler døgnet rundt :s
Hey Ivar,
I'm planning on heading up to Hodevik , Ervik and Vetvik in two weeks...if the fishing is as bad as you say then maybe I should change plans or break out a fly rod for sea trout????
What do you think...?

I use a shimano sth travel rod which is both light and casts very well. The reel I use most, especially for dead sticking is a Shimano Baitrunner size 6000 which is plenty big enough. Loaded with 20 lb Power Pro and with a significant shock leader, the rig can throw well over 125yrds+. ALL DAY LONG! Which is something I find impossible with heavier equipment.
When in the US, I use a 10'Loomis which is by far the best surfrod I have ever used.
Remember that it is easy to overlook the fact that big fish cruise way in tight to the shore in search of food and casting in the surf doesn't mean chucking line very far all the time.
Good luck with your equipment hunt!

Heisan,
Squid is my favorite bait for the surf.

Thank you!!

Does anyone know the name and or phone number to the shop at Norby center in Strømstad that has pretty good deals on fishing gear?
Thanks,
Jim

Right retrieve for lightweight and precision casting, left retrieve for better lifting power (that is ifyou are not a southpaw)

TJ
With guide the reel is just a little heavier but you don't have to babysit the line while reeling in.
Without the reel is lighter and better casting.

Hei
Fisker aldri på over 250 metres dybde. Hva skal jeg velge?
TJ
Have you looked at Daiwa?? A Sealine reel is an excellent choice for around 100 USD's...
Tackle direct had them: http://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-sealine-x-ha-sha-reel.html
Good folks to deal with!

Just a little info required from those who have caught Bass in the area in the last few years... If you would be so kind...
Day/Month: ????
Approximate Time: ????
Location: ????
Lure/bait: ????
I'll be heading out to Stad in April, way too early for bass but I've heard they frequent the breakers. Will be happy to snoop around and gather some info for late summer fishing (fly?)...

I'll be heading for Hardangerfjord soon as the Vidda is drivable. Being land-locked in Geilo has its downfalls!

Dei båtane Stig har ute no ligg i Vågsvåg.
Jimnor:

Hey LT!
Vetvika looks awesome!! I will definitely try to get over there during my trip to Hoddevik.
I'm spooling up with some 20 pound Power Pro (thin stuff but I'll tye on a .50 shock leader) and I just received a bunch of Hopkins and Castmasters from New Jersey. Are you familiar with those lures? Standard surf metals for the entire eastern seaboard...
I'll be packing a Shimano 330 H hung with a Shimano bait runner and a 9 ft Beserkely mounted with a forty year old Daiwa Procaster loaded with .32 Carson mono. For the most part I'll dead stick the 330 and work the surf hard with the Berkely with lures and Poppers.
Thanks once agin for the heads up on Vetvika.

Jimnor: wich guide set to choose?
Rune,
Sorry about the late answer...fighting a back injury ...
I'd go for the AG200-008 and a large loop tip top.

Its surf fishing I'm after. Long beach casts and working the rips!!!

I wouldn't know how changing out guides will affect the warranty from an OEM. If the fine print (on the warranty)has you stumped feel free to scan and e-mail me at jweiss@frisurf.no. I'll do my best to translate but be forewarned, I'm not a lawyer!!!

Thats a good idea...? The cost of replacing all that gear on a fly rod is expensive and TIME CONSUMING!
Rainshadow makes some great blanks for just about every application. Pacific Bay also imports and manufactures great blanks. You don't have to build on a top name blank in order to acheive great performance.
I would recommend though, spending the money on a Bellinger reel seat. Beautiful stuff...

Tenkte bestille fra midtgardfluefiske.no
Rune,
Guide sets are listed from Shofft tackle supply:
www.shofftackle.com/hh-guide-sets.html
It should be helpful...The #7 STS is a real canon. If you use it in the salt or winter, I'd go up a size for improved shooting and less ice build up.
Changing reel seats can be a pain....if you use a heat gun, the temp required to remove the epoxy holding the cork and seat is very close to the temp which could ruin your rod. In any case I'd do the rebuild from the bottom up beginning with a removable fighting butt.
Good luck!

Ivar,
Did you get a line wet last weekend? If so, how did you do??
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks! Yeh, I'm going to be dredging the bottom for doormats! Where I come from, New Jersey, we get fluke in the surf!!
-
Any info concerning surf fishing in Hoddevik would be much appreciated...(I read Norwegian)
Planning a trip in the beginning of April. Any chance for seatrout from the beach?
Thanks,
Jim

I'm going to make a last minute call on this one...its a hell of a long drive out there but is worth it just for the scenery!! I have options in Hardangerfjord and a boat in Eidfjord to borrow any time.
What about Solastrand and that fantastic beach, Børestrand?!? (Sp.) Possible surf casting for flatfish and sea trout????
Could dead stick (park) a bait and work a Hopkins (silver 20gram sluk) along the top?!?
