  1. in my experience 0.18 mono is usually too thin on a fast rod (speedmaster) with 18g and heavier... woulda thought 12g would be no problem tho. You must be really swinging hard :D

Another thing to check is the rim of the spool.... can get pretty rough if you lay the rod on the ground

  2. I've caught mackeral in every month of the year in the west, I imagine it's possible in Oslo area too. Summer through autumn being the most abundant months and springtime being the leanest. You can also catch them from under the sea ice in winter.

Mackeral is harder not to catch than catch. If you fish light gear, there is nothing better than a møresild spoon lure, it is pretty much a go to lure for both mackeral and sea trout. If you are after a pile of mackeral for bait use a mackeral trace (tinsel type) above a heavier lure.

  3. One Klo was on its back, drifted out a bit in the tide and then washed up on the beach several hours later. The other klo I got a good look at several hours later as I laid it out on a weed bed and it wasn't pumping water over it's gills or responding to anything.

Piggskate could have won the oscar for playing dead apart from pumping water over it's gills the whole time but swam away as vigorously as it fought on the way up after a poke from a rod tip.

Unless they have some ability to recover after several hours of being totaly catatonic the two Klo were dead as a Norwegian blue parrot.

  4. Kloskate ain't so tough, Had a couple of them die on me without any deep hooking or bleeding. One I only reeled in about 20m distance in about 6m of water, still bloody died.

One piggskate also took about 20 mins of laying on a weed bed, motionless before it came to it's senses.

They aren't as tough as they look.
