  1. Hell... don't get much for 999kr in Norway. Sounds like a smart buy...providing You can use it lol.

My uncle got the greys as well, He is quite chuffed. it got quite an outing too... He was invited to a place by a poker friend who turns out to breed trout! several fish over 7lb and a couple of smaller ones gave the rod its baptism.

Are You sure there are any trout round Your way? I catch trout almost daily... tho recently its taken a downturn and been replaced by mackies and gars.

I'll get back to you on the "being able to use it" part ! :D

I got the Greys GRXi 8.5ft #4/5 for the fresh water rivers and lakes in Nordmarka, just outside of Oslo. It was the first time I've been on Sunday, so hopefully it'll get a bit more productive in the future when I get my bearings!

I use a 10.5ft #7/8 for saltwater fly fishing in the Oslo fjord for sea trout, although I haven't managed to connect with one yet! I've had a couple of nice cod, gars and cole fish tho! Going to get out in my float tube soon so that should give me a few more options! its great fun and scary at the same time! :)

  2. on to the salmon already... any luck with the trout yet?

No luck with the trout - yet!

Took the new Greys GRXi 8.5ft #4/5 out for a spin on Sunday and was very impressed!

It was more an impulse buy to be honest, got talking to a guy in Prima Villmarksliv and he said they had a sale on to get rid of old stock! Got a Slate GHX 14ft #9/10 (normal price NOK2099) and a Slate Classic salmon reel (normal price NOK799) for a total of NOK 999! Needless to say I couldn't say no! The same price as a quiet night out in Oslo :)

Just need to learn how to cast with the bloody thing now, it's like a telephone pole! :D

    We live in hope! :)

SA GPX, Vision extreme distance, LTS Ultimate e.l.

    Hi,

I'm sorry that this is written in English, min norsk er ikke så bra! :)

Here is a link for some Snowbee fly lines in England, plus they come with backing and a braided loop :)

    http://www.fmtc.co.uk/web_store.php?produc...id=FLY&cart_id=

As Norway is not in the EU, you can ask them to deduct VAT (-17.5%), although you will have to pay moms when it arrives, still I think this works out cheaper than the Norwegian prices!

    Hope it helps.

  4. Hi,

I apologise that this is written in English, I'm still struggling to learn Norwegian! :D

    I am interested in starting flyfishing for salmon and was thinking of purchasing a double handed fly rod;

    - Fly rod size (13 feet)

    - Fly rod weight (#8/9)

Is this a good set-up for a beginner and a river such as the Drammenselva?

Also... does anyone have any advice on good places / flies / or tubes to fish the Drammenselva?

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

You can reply to this mail in Norwegian if you like and I'll get the Mrs. to translate it for me!

    Tusen takk

  5. I'm told Big trout tend to be most active when we are least active but I've hooked big ones by day and little ones by night just the same. I think more than anything its just nicer to be out when all the jetski/speedboat nuiscances have gone home :)

If you are gonna fish in the later twighlight I would opt for a silouhette fly like a muddler or big black zonkers which are widely acclaimed as 'The' nightime fly... I can't vouch for the Zonker Myself as I haven't used it much but the muddlers are great fun to pop along the top.

Goundbaiting with mackarel also helps, It can turn a 2 fish seshion into 20. just make sure you know which way the tide is flowing and cast downtide (perhaps slightly across)... trout sit facing uptide in the sea as they do in a river.

as for the spinning rod... arm yourself with Møre-silda lures, the 10 gram is an absolute killer.

Yeah totally agree with you about speed boats/jetskii's!

Dont have any zonkers in my box at the minute, think i'll tie a few tonight in some darker colours for night fishing!

I've got loads of those Møre-Sild lures, and I've caught practically every fish except the sea trout! :)

Never tried the groundbaiting though, if I catch a mackrell I'll knock it on the head, slice it up and chuck out a ground bait to see what happens!

  6. The time is NOW! spring and autumn are considered best times for seatrout... Tho they can be caught the whole year round, they just tend to be a bit deeper when the weather is not to their liking.

Try sandy ground with rocky outcrops and weed in bunches. run a fly over the weed and watch it turn into bars of silver.

Any norwegian will tell you that a clear intermediate line is best... some Danes say floating... I use both clear intermediate and sink3. Sinking line cuts the wind a bit better and intermediate hovers long enough over the shallows. They all work well enough just like in fresh water but If you do use a floater then You will be at the mercy of the wind and there is plenty of that by the sea.

As for Flies, Baitfish imitations rule. Epoxy fish, clouser type minnows, decievers are absolute guaranteed anywhere in the world. Chartreuse or green with white as a base colour seem best. very sparse haired flies seem to do better as well. Marabou heavy flies like fritzs etc. work very well too but don't last long in the sea

For a more thrilling take try muddlers and other surface sillouhette flies.

I can't recommend anything for Oslo specifically.

think I've touched on everything... hope it helps.

    Thanks for the reply/advice!

Think I'm gonna have a look out fishing over Fornebu/Snarøya tonight when the sun goes down, they say more/bigger fish come closer into shore when it's dark - so fingers crossed!

Think I'll go for the clear intermediate approach with a clouser minnow like you said, I've got a few of those in different colours to change things round a bit! Think I'll also take the spinning rod if my arm start to ache or if the wind becomes an issue!

If any Norwegians out there are a bit shy of replying in English, feel free to write in Norwegain and I'll get the Mrs. to translate it.

Thanks again "atomichaggis" for the reply.

  7. Thats a pretty good site. My uncle will probably buy from glasgow angling centre... they have a strange bundle on the same rod...

Any GRXi or Greyflex MKII Rod

    Scierra IC3 Fly Reel

    3x Spare Spools

    Scierra padded Multi-reel Bag

    2x Scierra Fly Lines

2x Spools of Hollow Braided Backing

    Pin on Zinger with snips

    New for 2006 Fly box

    Scierra Casting DVD

    * Smaller Line Sizes (up to #5) come with Orivs Rocky Mountain Reel and Two Scientific Anglers Lines (floatng and double taper)

the SA lines sound good tho.

Yeah it's a pretty good site!

I looked at the outfit you mentioned last week but preferred the GRXi reel and plus it came with an extra fly line! I'm not too bothered about the zinger, fly box and the DVD!

As for the SA flylines, i've never tried them but i've heard mixed reviews, however the Snowbee XS always seems to get great reviews! Follow the crowd and all that!!!

  8. I think it was last thursday that MXsport was doing a one day only deal on grey's packages... possibly some hardy stuff too. I just glanced over the ad in the newspaper as I was going to the UK. think it was just the G series tho which was probably still cheaper in the UK but not bad for Norwegian prices.

I got Me a bass rod... 7' baitcaster. haven't bought a greys flyrod yet.

My uncle is considering buying one for Scottish loch fishing (wild browns) so Be sure to let us know how You get on with the GRXi.

p.s. Where did You buy Your outfit?

Yeah, there's a alot of good GRX offers at the moment but I thought I would go for the newer GRXi version, plus it's had some good reviews and I've heard a lot of good comments about the rods!

I'll let you know how I get on, I should have it by next week so i'll be itching to get out and try it!

I got my outfit from fmtc.co.uk

I've ordered from them before and i've had no problems! You also have the option to upgrade the package, if you want the GTX reel for example or if you want more expensive lines, I opted for the £15 upgrade for Greys GRXi lines instead of the normal GRX lines that come with the £169 outfit! I usually fish with Snowbee XS lines but they weren't in the offer.

  9. Nice :P I just brought a greys rod back from the UK and when I registered the product for warranty I had to use a UK address... do You get the lifetime warranty when you buy in Norway?

I'm buying it from the UK and having it delivered to my parents address, then my parents are going to post it to me in Norway as a "gift" if you know what I mean! ;)

Can you buy Greys rods in Norway, I haven't seen them in/around the Oslo area?

I'm going to register everything to the UK at my parents address to ensure that the warrantly still applies.

If I manage to break the rod i'll just post it back and have my parents do all the warranty legwork in the UK and then post the new rod out to me again! :)

What Greys rod did you buy?

I got quite a good deal on a Greys outfit £169.99 for a GRXi 8'6" #4/5 with the matching new Greys GRXi reel and reel bag, 3 spare spools all fitted with backing line and braided butts and 3 fly lines, floating, intermediate and sinking! And of course the Greys lifetime warranty which is always a bonus! :D

Think this will be a great little outfit for the rivers and small lakes in/around Oslo! ;)

  10. Hei,

Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice! :)

I finally decided upon a Greys GRXi 8'6" #4/5 - Hopefully this will be a good rod for both the rivers and small lakes around Oslo.

    Tusen takk

    Jonathan :)

  11. Hi all,

I apologise that this is written in english - "min norsk er ikke så bra!"

I am soon going to buy a new fly rod for fishing the rivers and lakes in and around Oslo, I was thinking about purchasing a 7ft6 #3/4 - is this a good option?

I was thinking about purchasing a Greys GRXi, any other ideas?

    Tusen takk

    Jonathan
