atomichaggis Skrevet May 24, 2007 Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 Bought some Mustad hoodlum hooks cos they looked pretty... just wondering what use they might be. they are a nice shape and fairly heavy gauge wire with nice sharp "Ultra point" at the business end. Fundamentally a Tuna/livebaiting hook, which is a bit stupid as there aint a whole lot of Tuna or livebaiting to be had in Norway. Anyone tried them around the Norwegian coast? are they good for anything in particular? Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
ThorEH Skrevet May 24, 2007 Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 I use Owner Gorilla for ray, cod and halibut! Arent they rather similar to these hooks ? I reckon it's the Mustad Big Gun (or something like that youre talkin about ? ) Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet May 24, 2007 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 Yeah, Hoodlum are very similar to the 'big gun' and owner gorilla. I just got the one pack of 3/O so they are quite small they are about the same size as some of the finer wired 2/O circles like eagle claws. They'll fit in the moth of most fish but I'm thinking they might bounce some of the smaller fish due to the heavy guage. I've tied a few single hook pats with these on... I'll try them on cod locally that should be a safe bet. Maybe try them on Steinbit at some point I'll pass on the ray and halibut until I can cast farther than You Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider

atomichaggis Skrevet May 24, 2007 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 It will never happen then You know with all this talk of competition I'm sorely tempted by UK offers on ZZiplex and century's (price match or better + self builds). Have You tried a continental style rod yet? Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
ThorEH Skrevet May 24, 2007 Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 I've tried (briefly) the Century CM 16" rod.. But the price on Century on Baardsen is the same as the price in stores in UK (incl freight) Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet May 24, 2007 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 Can You cast as far overhead with the long rod than powercasting with the shorter ones? seems these massive rods are all the rage in the UK now. I've never tried it and it seems You can opt for a budget rod that way too. freight is just 18 pounds 'sports equiptment' baggage on Ryanair You can save massive amounts on self builds... if You trust Your rod finishing skills enough that is. ThorEH Skrevet May 24, 2007 Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 (endret) It's to much work to set up the rod yourself.. the difference on a Zziplex blank and a finished rod is just 50£.. You barely get the thread for that price.. not to mention the rings and workhours Endret May 24, 2007 av ThorEH Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
atomichaggis Skrevet May 24, 2007 Forfatter Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 Century tip tornado blank price was around 135GBP and 150GBP respectively for 2 sizes on some site I saw earlier. About the continental rod... Can You cast farther? Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
ThorEH Skrevet May 24, 2007 Rapporter Share Skrevet May 24, 2007 (endret) With an overhead cast, u will cast farther without practice.. as they are easier to cast. But U will (with practice) cast just as far (or even further) with a standard 6oz 13ft rod.. (there is a reason Danny holds on to his Kompressors ) Endret May 24, 2007 av ThorEH Svar på innlegget Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider
